Alternator Type

Post by jollyroger »

My alternator has just packed in. It's is one of the conversion kits from ESM. Does anyone know exactly what type it is? I want to go to a motor factors first thing and get a replacement. It is wet and windy outside and the car is a mile from home and I don't want to take it out tonight. I have taken out the battery and am charging it in the house tonight and will hopefully bring the car home first thing. Any help appreciated.

No idea what ESM supply - I use Lucas ACR 16/17/18 and that fit's straight on. Used to get them for £1 at autojumbles.... There is a place in Bellshill that reconditions alternators etc - but he's not cheap. Sure it's not just a broken connection ? Usually it's just the brushes sticking - or needing renewed.

Thanks Roy. I have taken it off and the connections seem fine. I'll shop around today.

Went to Shandon Electrical in Bellshill and he will check it out and should be able to repair it. Thanks anyway.

I fitted a reconditioned one today cost £35.
The car must be getting old - petrol pump last week now the alternator. I may need to get something a bit more modern - maybe a 1970 one!

It's completely different - probably 3 or 4 different ones cobbled together! In hindsight I might have been better to order the one Roy suggested from ebay. Anyway needs must. :D
