Fitting indicators

Post by alanhollybush »

I can see from previous discussions that this has been touched on before so could someone point me in the right direction please.
My '63 2 door uses the old flashing sidelight/brakelight setup.
I have already fitted new halogen headlights with built-in sidelights so I was going to utilize these by diverting the existing wiring from the sidelight at the front. I was going to leave the existing lamp and holder as an indicator but change the clear glass in the L488 fitting to amber.
But how do I sort out the rear? I don't quite understand how the relay works with the indicator and brakelight switches.
This newbie would be really grateful for some help!

Hi
One way to fit separate rear flashers, as follows.
I assume you have a 8 way relay feeding the brake lights and flashers.

Number 2 and 6 on the relay feed the front flashers, Number 6 right hand green/white and 2 left hand green/red.
These cables need to be extended to the new respective rear flashers.

You need to remove numbers 3 and 7 cables and connect to number 5, on the 8 way relay, to prevent the brake lights flashing, and allow them to just work as brake lights.

Hi
I hope I have posted a diagram of my set up, which may explain the 8 way relay more clearly.

There are more than one way to skin a cat (please note no cats were harmed in the making of this post)
If you want to incorporate indicators into the original rear lamps take a look here:-

If you want some discreet (until they're lit) indicators, take a look here:-
