Su fuel pump problem

Post by Sandun »

Hi My Friends

I found a SU fuel pump , I want re assemble it , so All are fine with out point section , i use a pump in my car long time now , it has not a Diode /Condenser .

But this pump has some resiter in between positive and point plate screw.

Then i Look some web Article too, there was some readings about 1.5kE15CA , 1.5kE24CA TVS diode , IN 4001 ,S14K 385

So i want to know , what can i use for it and how ?

Next- can i remove that ( condenser /Diode ) and use the pump as my old one .

Note - My car is 12v & Negative earth car

Regards
Sandun .

If its easy to do, just remove the resistor/diode and see if the pump runs as normal when connected up to a 12v source. If it is a normal SU pump with points it should run OK in either a +ive or -ive earth car.....

Whether a diode, capacitor, or resistor is easy to determine with a decent multimeter.

Diode will have high restance one way and low(er) resistance in the other. Capacitor will be open circuit to DC current in both directions (unless an electrolytic type, which is unlikely). A resistor will have the same resistance whichever way it is measured.

All assuming the components are good, of course!.

A diode and resistor may be used to leak away high voltage spikes or a capacitor to absorb induced emf when the contacts separate.

I doubt they were installed for no good reason, if factory items.
