We have recently acquired a 1962 Transitional and am having problems in sourcing a replacement distributor. I believe the one fitted to be a Lucas DM2P4 which doesn't seem to be available from the regular suppliers. Would either a 24D4 or the 45D4 be a replacement as these seem to be available.
Thanks. Bill

Re: 1962 Transitional Distributor
Presumably by transitional you mean it’s a very early 1098? My 1962 948 (exactly the same spec as the 1098s but not classed as transitional!) has its original (though rebuilt) DM2 but they look pretty identical to the 25d4 (not 24d4). I’d go for one of those (a 25d4) as I believe the innards are a bit better than the DM2 (according to Martin Jay - Distributor Doctor, who rebuilt mine). I’m pretty certain that the change from DM2 to 25d4 happened very late in 948 production, i.e.late in 1962, and that 1098s has the 25d4 from the beginning, so am almost certain that’s what your car would originally have had.
The 45d4 was never fitted to Minors, and while it will work, they aren’t quite such good quality and they look very different (if that’s a consideration!).

Re: 1962 Transitional Distributor
To add, having looked it up, it seems that the distributor fitted changed from DM2 to 25d4 on 948 engine no. 604228 (if Ray Newell's info is correct!), meaning that any 1098-engined car would have been fitted with the 25d4.

Thanks for your replies. I fitted the 25D4 which I purchased from Accuspark with electronic ignition already fitted for £69.95 so well pleased and it's running fine.
