Gearbox to chassis earth strap bolt

Post by houseamber »

Dear All, Hoping you can help with what is hopefully a straightforward question!!
The Gearbox to chassis earth strap on our 62 Morris is loose at the chassis end and seems to be spinning on the bolt.
Is there a way to access the other side of the bolt or another way to tighten it up?

Thank you :)

Assuming your earth strap is connected to one of the crossmember bolts and is just spinning a not tightening up, you will have a problem with the captive nut no longer being captive.

Depending on which side of the car you are looking at will determine how difficult it is to fix, if it is a UK right hand drive they are usually connected to the front bolt at the passenger side, this can be got at but you will have to remove the big gearbox cover from inside the car so you can see into the top of the chassis rail.

If it is at the drivers side on a LH drive car then the brake master cylinder will also need to come out to gain access to the captive nut.
