Indicator Arm Problem

Post by Stevearniepalmer »

Hello All
1967 Morris Minor 4 door. Owned 2 and half years.

Audrey has been running really well recently with no problems to report at all.
Until today!
When I bought the car a mechanic who did some work on her got the indicator arm working really well.
Recently I’ve noticed that the indicator arm has been a bit temperamental not cancelling,
Not staying on etc.
Then this morning when taking her back to the garage I rent I noticed that
The steering was a bit clunky and indicator arm not working properly not staying on unless held in position.

When I stopped at the garage I opened the garage door and as I turned the wheel the indicator arm
Turned as well so 1) the indicator arm is now at 12 o’clock and
2) the indicator is on all the time.!
As you will see from previous posts I’m not particularly mechanically minded so any help would be
Very gratefully received.
Regards
Steve

Do you rely entirely on the trafficators, or do you have indicators as well?
Trafficators are easily removed, cleaned and lubricated.

Hi
Thanks for replying to my problem.
Audrey is a 1967 4 door so no trafficators I’m afraid ,just one stalk and the later model indicators front and rear.
Many thanks
Steve

It sounds like the assembly has come loose and caught on the cancel ring. Take the cowling off and check, it is an easy matter to slacken it off at the clamp and re-adjust it.

Hi thanks for the reply.Could you explain to a non mechanical person like me how you would do that please.
Does it involve taking the steering wheel off or is it done with wheel on.
I have screwdrivers spanner’s etc but obviously with a problem like this I need to get it right.
Many thanks

This YouTube video may help. He talks real slow but does point out some helpful stuff.
