I've not seen one for a while but there used to be a screwdriver available, probably still is somewhere, which had a three pronged "gripper" on the end. You inserted the tip (straight or Philips) and at the same time pushed a button on the handle, then released and gripped the screw head. The gripper was released as soon as the thread had "started."Worked every time, seen many an electrician use one.

I know the one '57, I found one in our garage, unfortunately it was broken and missing a prong. I've never seen one for sale though.

Once again, having the right tool makes the job sooooo much easier
Agreed but an improvement is always welcome and you often find that when tightened the adjustment has moved slightly and a hex key will make it less fiddly.
Letter in the post Woo Thanks.
I tighten the points slightly so the points plate is gripped by the screw but still able to be moved by a thin bladed screwdriver, then tighten down and afterwards turn the engine again using the handle and re-check the points gap.
Cheers John - all comments IMHO

 been away for a fortnight - good idea though. I'm all fingers and thumbs with regards to points.
Idris.
First things first, but not necessarily in that order.
