I just thought I'd post an article on recovering sunvisors. Mine were black plastic covered-not original and looked tatty so I decided to have a go at it.
First pic-the inside and the foam is pretty grotty.
New core made from poplar plywood +6mm stainless steel pipe epoxied in place and reinforced with 1mm aluminium
The I covered one in "felt" and the other in upholstery padding. I hadn't enough of either to do both. The blue felt is actually an old scarf passed it's days donated by DLW. The felt was then stiched around the edges.
Next thing to do was to sew (again DLW) an inside out pocket made from black leatherette.
Insert the visor and hand stitch the top doubling the seam (1x DLW, 1x me)
Finished article drivers side
On the passenger side I added a mirror (Renault Twingo). A bit big but.....
Regards
Declan

Re: Sunvisors DIY
The rather crude wire and foam rubber and so called crushable sun visors were a concession to safety, they were not particularly well made and don't age well. I like the two very different approaches to renovating them, the first sober and bussinesslike and the second a rather mad chintzy style which would grace any sitting-room. Thanks.[frame][/frame]
