Squealing Fan Belt
The usual remedy in such a case is to tighten the fanbelt but it may be that with an old, oily engine the belt tension is correct but oil has got on the belt causing it to slip. In such a case, remove the belt and clean off all the oil on the pulleys and the belt itself and re-set to the correct tightness.

If once oil free and still squealing give the belt a good showering with French Chalk or at a push talcum powder.

Talcum powder may make the old engine smell a bit sweeter too. I know we like to pamper our cars
