I have just dug out a cylinder head that i took off a 1275 Midget engine a few years back and it is a 12G940 casting, but has 12G938 and the letter "U" stamped near the thermostat housing :o
The stamping looks original and similar to that i have seen on 11 stud Mini heads, but this is a 9 stud head and the only none standard thing i can see is that it is fitted with double valve springs :-?
Any idea's as i know some of you are hot on the head numbers!

9 stud? double springs? cooper s head at a guess?

quick google kicks up the following quote:
The 12G938 is the original head fitted to the early 1275s

`12G938' is a 12G940 casting, 1.312 inlets, 1.156 exhausts, used on common 1275.

that might match up with taking it of a midget block

Not heard of the '938' version - but as the others say - it looks like Midget head because of the double springs. Standard size valves - so NOT the bigger inlet valved MG Metro head (which was also 9 hole) or the similar S head which was 11 hole!

My Moggie has a Midget 1275 of around 1973 vintage, with 9 studs and double valve springs.
