You appear to have a non standard oil filler cap which makes me think that you have a non standard rocker cover fitted.
A photo of the rocker cover would be appreciated.

The rocker cover is a non standard aftermarket item.
If the oil filler cap is fitted to a steel insert in the top of the alloy rocker cover I would suggest that the cap you have is correct. The standard MG oil filler cap will not fit the rocker cover currently fitted.
The shouldered grommets that fit under the rocker cover securing screws may require the rocker cover holes to be fettled/adjusted to suit.

Just wondering if you could advise a rocker cover replacement as even if I get bolts to fit the filler cap has some chrome missing.if not is it possible to adjust the receiving bolts in the engine that the exterior rocker bolts screw down to so they accept the shorter bolts please
