LRBM & square topped wiper motor plinths
Anyone any idea WHEN these features ended, late 1958 or early 1959?
NO change recorded for LRBM, but if there's a engine number quoted for the change from oil bath to paper air filter chances are they would both be the same.
Have been using these features to arrive at a build date for many years, BUT, have been unable to narrow them down to months.
All help appreciated

I'm not able to answer your question but would love to know what you're talking about - what does LRMB stand for?

400k books about the Minor and after 70 years the LRBM issue hasn't officially been explained.
There are TWO interesting snippets of evidence which convinced me of a logical reason & add to the book, but it would be good to have a discussion about both changes

Put up a photo Chris, then we’ve got a chance to comment, however with such things I doubt we’ve much to say!

Discussed WAY back on "LBM models" pics too.

Re: LRBM & square topped wiper motor plinths
Emphasize it's location is at the REAR, not anywhere else!
Not that it mattered anyway, most ppl wouldn't know an LRBM if it took them out to dinner, sang Andy Williams songs, danced naked on a balcony before presenting them with a gold plated LRBM.

I feel deprived in that my 1957 2 door saloon Minor does not have the LRBM

Should have, 1951-late 58ish, check the wiper motor plinth, stamped chassis number & body code.philthehill wrote: ↑Mon Aug 02, 2021 5:56 pm I feel deprived in that my 1957 2 door saloon Minor does not have the LRBM
Bit worrying, oil bath or paper air filter?

Re: LRBM & square topped wiper motor plinths
As it stands, a bare "clap-hand" shell is quoted everywhere as 1956-63, if we can narrow build year 1956-59, 1959-63, surely that's a good thing(?).
For example; someones cherished LRBM 2dr/Convertible gets stolen, a vehicle later turns up with the id of a POST LRBM....instantly determine - without even bothering to check chassis number - the vehicle has been "cloaned".
Les, believe me, it's a battle writing books, it's a war against many years of false conclusions & assumptions, only weapon's at my disposal are (black fine) bic's, scrap envelope's & a calculator!

There will always be new facts popping up Chris, that make it a task that never ends but if it’s something you’re interested in and enjoy, that’s all that matters.

Re: LRBM & square topped wiper motor plinths
Wiper motor plinth was removed many years ago to accommodate the carbs so no details there. The car originally had the large oil bath air filter.
All numbers are correct.
Les is right in that new facts will always appear. Definitive and complete records are a rarity.

Sounds like a re-shell, all 57 2drs had the LRBM feature!philthehill wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 8:58 am Wiper motor plinth was removed many years ago to accommodate the carbs so no details there. The car originally had the large oil bath air filter.

2dr Cab codes used during 1957 were;
Z20250, Z20736,Z21656 & Z22247, ALL with LRBM
Body nos. roughly 180k to 230k
Does the engine nos stamped on the VIN plate have an "H" prefix?
Spent best part of 10yrs on non-LCV body numbers, but who know, with it being quite a complex system, might be wrong.

Re: LRBM & square topped wiper motor plinths
Original shell and have known the car throughout its existence.
The car was made in 1957 and registered/put on the road 1st Jan 1958.
Now fitted with a A plus 1275cc engine, do not know the original engine number - the log book was lost in the system when the brown log book was superseded by the paper copy.

Re: LRBM & square topped wiper motor plinths
Slightly "off topic" here...
Have upset an owner who bought a CKD ex Oz Minor LCV - he had been told it was built in 1954 - however, as Oz CKD Minor's had build year prefixes added to engine numbers, (in this instance "03" showing it was assembled in1955), what is the answer, is it 1954 or 1955?
I do like to think I bung out fairly good, accurate info. BUT would you class a 1954 crated up Minor as a 1954, or when it was actually built in 1955?
Thoughts please?
