Chris, having decided to end your research on those previously mentioned models, will the LCV research continue, or do you predict that going the same way?

The people who made these cars are mostly long gone. The machines are long gone. The decisions long lost and forgotten.
And therein lies the rub, as you say these people are sadly long gone and the reasons for these decisions largely died with them.
Best wishes,
Mike.

This research malarky was very hard going, without assistance, only so much anyone could do.
Good if MMOC had formed some form of "Research Group".....but again, dealving into the unknown is not most peoples' cup of tea.

Funnily enough received FIVE individual LCV vin/cab/engine numbers since my gloomy post, usually lucky to get 1 a month!!!

Chris, if you put the changes and introductions into chronological order there may be a plausible explanation. Issigonis designed the shell. Then after a couple years the roof join was identified as a costly operation and the moulding was added as a solution. Soon the four door was introduced. A few years later they decided to unify the 2 door and 4 door roof and gutter tooling. Perhaps the tooling was due for refurbishing or replacement at that time. It's always possible that they tried the tooling on a few 2 doors before it was used full time to verify the feasibility of the change.

The BIG change was with the Z102xx cab codes, which was about the same time the 4dr was introduced, would make sense!
With the LRBM Tourer's, the hood fastening "clips" or "buttons" were ON the ends of the LRBM.

Further research should continue, reached the stage whereby body numbers CAN be read like registration numbers, anyone within the MMOC willing to take over, please e-mail; pommreg@gmail.com

Ditto for Adderley Park Traveller's

I don't understand why they extended the moulding past the gutter in the first place. That section is part of the lower panel whereas the rest of the moulding is part of the roof section. There must be some welded joint and then leading. If the entire moulding was added after the roof was assembled, why would the tourer have the short section remaining. I've never had to repair any thing at the base of the roof, so I don't know the details of the structure.

Anyones guess....

As I said, Oz Export Tourers converted to 2drs, whether THIS was the reason, who knows?

I explained the ‘phenomena’ to a structural engineer at work. He thinks it’s a ‘rat hole’ to allow the welder to return the weld therefore reducing a hard point / potentially cracking point.

That was just his opinion

Any Minor 2drs known to have structual issues at this point, should be evidence via BMC?

Must be a reason for it, when was the 4dr introduced, much the same time as the Z1210x LRBM bodyshell codes?
Nearly 3k on the list, NO early 4drs to compare this with!

All sorted, thanks to the kind chaps who took the trouble to persue investigation...🥳

I suppose there’s always someone who knows the answer to these details but consider them too trivial to be of general interest, so until brought up, says nothing. :o

A PRE LRBM (10/49) Tourer with a roof has surfaced in Oz, how on earth it was fitted is a mystery.

Nothing to do with Cowley/Nuffield, however a year later, Cowley introduced the LRBM feature, probably to make it easier to for dealers to convert Tourer's - owing to Australia being such a big mkt. - to more desirable & practical 2drs.
