Anyone know the history of stick-on versus pop-rivitted rocker cover labels?

Years and models?

Mine is 1957 and riveted. Did the change not happen when the oil filler cap changed from metal to plastic ?

Quite possibly. But hard to get an authoritative answer. Somebody somewhere must know.

Hi Brian,

Pop rivets were never used for this purpose. Soft copper rivets were and they would have been stamped to the rocker covers during production.

They started when the 'Austin' (A series 803cc) engine arrived and carried on through Series II and 948cc production but there is no absolute date when they finished. The change is too small to record.

It could have when the 1098cc engine came into use as I know cars from 1964 ish have the stick on labels.

Hope that helps a little.

Ian

More a case of when the last stocked rivet was used, as no doubt after the decision to stop was made, there were thousand of rivets left in store to use up!

I was out under the bonnet of both our cars earlier so out of interest I had a look at the labels and both our August (948) and post-October (1098) '63 cars appear to have the rivet style of label.
