Differential repair parts

Post by manlyvaleaussie »

Has anyone overhauled/rebuilt the differential in the split axle type rear axle assembly as in the Series MM. (photo attached) I currently have mine dismantled and I need the diff. carrier bearings and the inner and outer pinion bearings. The original carrier bearings are (Ransom & Marles) R&M 19/LJ35, the inner pinion bearing is Skefco 2K-247-3X and the outer is also Skefco but difficult to decipher so as close as I can come is 2K-15-00(S) or (5). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

According to my UK 1950's bearing catalogue:

1949 Series MM
The two Differential bearings are - R&M LJ35 or SKF 6207

The Bevel Pinion Front bearing is - SKF 2K1500S/5K15250X or Timken 15100S/15250X - Timken were only sold as a complete set BT15024BS with spacer.

The Bevel Pinion Rear bearing is - SKF 2K2473X/2K2420 or Timken 2473X/2420 - Timken were only sold as a complete set BT15024BS with spacer.

1951 to 1952 Minor
The two Differential bearings are - R&M 19/LJ35 no SKF equivalent in the 1950's

The Bevel Pinion Front and Rear bearings are - Timken 15023BS no other equivalents in the 1950's

Possible suppliers:

https://simplybearings.co.uk/shop/p2017 ... _info.html

https://www.ebay.com/itm/143656278943

Timken 2473X/2420 also fits the MG YA and YT - NTG describe it as very, very expensive at over £300 - see their page below

https://www.mgbits.com/contents/en-uk/p ... -Rear.html

I've been unable to find a match or an equivalent for R&M 19/LJ35 - presumably it must have been a special bearing.

Thinking outside the box ........
The 1945 to 1950 Morris 8 Series Z Vans - a huge number of them operated by the Royal Mail and Post Office Telephones, used a very similar if not almost identical split rear axle to the Series MM Minor. The two differential bearings used in the 1945 to 1950 Series Z Vans and the MG YA and YT Cars were Timken 16150/16284. These probably won't fit the Series MM as a replacement for the apparently unobtainable 19/LJ35, but worth exploring as they're still available.

Thank you for this truly invaluable information, I was able to pick up another complete rear axle assembly which has a pitted CWP due to water being inside but maybe between the two we can come up with usable bearings for both the carrier and pinion, fortunately I have a serviceable CWP in my original assembly. I will keep you posted and again many thanks for the info.

Just to let you know that we were able to salvage enough bearings from the two units to complete the job, I did try to find new ones but to no avail, thanks again for your info. Any chance to have or no of someone else who has a prop shaft fro the Series MM, different to all the others as I'm sure you know.
Regards,
Paul Follett.
