The grey of DOOM
Hello all.
First of all, yes I am a nervous wreck now.
I was reading Ray Newell's Original Morris Minor, and I couldn't help but notice the duration of colours.
Facts: chassis SMM/57195, 2dr saloon.
In the original book of the importer Molenaar my car is noted as GREY (well grijs actually). Really helpful.
The chassisnumber dates it to about august 1950 (car LHD 65004 in sep 1950)
Which is still Platinum Grey.
But the other things in the dealerbook is the fact that it was FINISHED in Holland on November 15th.
Which in turn puts it into Gascoyne Grey.
So could anyone please please help me, or call the mental hospital
Onne

Anyone got a picture of a gascoyne grey car then? And the grey you have typed.... is that in green? I might be a tad colour blind...

Do you have the Heritage certificate for your MM ?
If it's UK assembled, the colour will be recorded.

If it was finished in Holland then surely the factory over there painted it? So you need THEIR records. If not and it was painted at Cowley then it should be Platinum grey.
As Scott says, did you get a Heritage certificate?
If I had to choose (in your postion) I'd go with Platinum Grey as it's such a nice early colour and you don't see many about.

It was shipped to holland as PKD. (partly knocked down) But still I would like to see a car in gascoyne grey too. My dash looks quite PG anyway, but only for the sake of, I'd like to see the other colour1

GREY
Try getting a small tin of each grey mixed up and see which one matches.

I have got PG, but not a clue as to what Gascoyne grey looks like. I am quite sure my car is PG, the dash looks greenish.
Oh and I do like platinum grey btw, I've seen a PG lowlight, of which I will post a picture, once I have uploaded them!

as promised. This is an early 50, late 49 lowlight. Original Dutch car, also completed in Holland. This one does not have the moulding on the back, so it is pre-four door introduction.
Nice fact about this one, only two owners from new, the last one since 1961
so enjoy!

Onne,
Molenaar notes only colours as grey, green etc. They don’t note the various tints.
In column 19 of the Molenaar book you find a stamped date. That is the date of import. In my case the date of import is one month earlier than the finished date.
Before the date of import the car was assembled and transported to Holland. Logistics in 1950 weren’t so organized as they are now. 15 November finished in Holland is (??-??) painted at Cowley.
“In Original Morris Minor” the end date of using Platinum Grey is September 1950. So its plausible that Victoria is born as a Platinum Grey car. An other argument is the chassisnumber, your car number is 57195, which falls in the Platinum Grey range (the platinum range ends at the number 63326).
So, Onne make Victoria, Platinum Grey. Its historical considered and it’s a beautiful colour.
Greetings from Holland,
Wimor

And it says 6-10-1950.
Wimor, is the original license plate number also on there? There are a lot of numbers left unexplained
