Re: MM speedo
According to and old post from Mike,
What is the number on the face of the speedo to the right of the needle? 1600 = Series MM, 1000 = Series II.
It is quite easy to reset the mileage on those speedos, I always set the mileage on the new one to the same as the old one if I have to change speedos for any reason.

Re: MM speedo
Keep hold of the old one. IIRC the conversion from mph to kph is 5:8 and the speedo difference is 1000:1600 (10:16 or 5:8) so in the unlikely event of taking an early Minor to the continent you can swap speedo dials.
I expect someone with more spare mental capacity than me can tell us which way round that works. Anyone got a kph MM speedo and can tell us the tpm number?

Re: MM speedo
I have not yet extended my studies to KPH speedos but I would think that the TPM would be the same as the MPH version ie the needle would point to the same place on the dial except that the dial would be reading the speed in KPH not MPH.
If anyone has any KPH speedos I would appreciate the info

Re: MM speedo
You can buy stickers to put on your speedo glass either mph or kph
Re: MM speedo
Hello,
this is the picture of my speedo before the partial restoration of my 1949 MM:
The number on the dial is 1000 so maybe a Series II speedo was fitted when the MM was imported in Italy, around 1954-58,to cope with the Italian law that, at the time, required a kph speedo. If there is any detail that I can give you on the speedo I'll try to help. What I can say that it is wildly optimistic (possibly due, at least in part, to the fact that the 145/85 Bridgestone radials that I fitted have a slightly smaller diameter than the original tires.)
Have a nice time
Stefano

Re: MM speedo
I have X70620/3 listed as a Series 2 KPH speedo which would explain why yours is over reading. I do not yet have a serial no for a Series MM KPH speedo. Can anyone help?

Re: MM speedo
It is the same as Stefano's. Is it accurate and if so have you got a 9/41 diff?

Re: MM speedo
Mike, how I know it is a 9/41 dif?
I have 2, one is a spare I found somewhere.[frame][/frame][frame][/frame]
From the outside it looks original, and with the original engine, it is not impossible the dif is also original....

Re: MM speedo
I do not know the technical condition, I never have driven with the car.
I bought him as spares, the engine was removed, and 20 km from the car.[frame][/frame]
And as you can see, the left front side has a strange position, he needs some hours on the celette.
When I bought him, there was a lot of filler in the car, I removed all...

The diff ratio is stamped on the front of the left axle tube, near the diff

Re: MM speedo
121385 is the axle number
8/43 = 5.375 is listed as an option for the Series MM but is more usually an early Series 2 axle

Re: MM speedo
I cleaned the spare axle, and found the 9/41 stamp.
So this means I have to change this one with the one who is on the car now?

Re: MM speedo
9/41 is the normal axle for a Series MM. 8/43 would give better acceleration at the expence of top speed, 4000rpm would be only 52mph instead of 60mph
