Hi,
Please could I have some guidence on the originality of two exterior parts on my Feb 1950 Lowlight.
It is fitted with plastic rear Lucas L471 lenses, should these be glass ones? Also the number plate light unit which is a black plastic one, I assume this would have been metal but what type? Any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you.
Pete

Quite good reproduction glass lens are now available, old ones are very hard to find and almost always chipped or broken t one of the screw ends. Be wary of the treads in the bases they are a strange thread and very easily broken.

Heres a link to the lens from East Sussex Minors,

ESM's rubber gasket between wing and light base has only a passing resemblance to the real thing. but the remainder of the rear light including lens is fine.

Thank you for your replies and advice.
I would like to acquire a pair of original lenses if possible.
Is there any specific markings ie Lucas stamp, date numbers etc that I need to check so I can tell the difference between the real thing and the reproductions? A photo of an original showing any markings would be a great help if possible.
Thanks
Pete

There's some NOS ones on ebay at the moment with photos showing the markings: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-PAIR-OF-G ... 1c481c019c

Thanks Louise.
I have had a close look at these and I am not sure on one of them. The 'Lucas' letters on the left one seems more prominent with a slightly different font and, unless it is the light, it seems a shade lighter in colour. Perhaps I am being picky, but the price is top dollar and as reproductions cost much less, and of quite good quality, I wish to be sure I get the real thing at that kind of money!
What do you think?

If the lenses are glass, they are Lucas
