Just slowly diss mantling my 49. Came across a couple of things to ask you gents about.
Firstly the roof seam beneath the the rear window where it joins the rear scuttle. How was this filled, if at all?

Secondly, the original Colour was grey. When I removed the guards the piping was green with the exposed part painted black. I dismissed it at the time but I have just removed one of the front inner window frames and found the fabric piping was also green with exposed part died black. Surely the car was not grey with green piping and a beige interior, was it?

Curious for some opinions. Cheers

The seam was probably lead-loaded.
This is a link to potential colour schemes around,I don't have it to hand but a search should find it.
Grey Green and beige doesn't sound impossible, nice change from black and red.

If you are refering to the moulding between the back of the roof and the boot, this was not fitted until mid 1950.
A BMIHT certificate would tell you the body and fittings colours

MarkyB, I had pressumed the same but upon removing the many layers of paint from the seam I can find no evidence of Lead. I wandered if it was left as an exposed seam around the rear of the car. Need to get a close look at some more original cars.

Mike, right part of the car but it does not have the Swage. I'm talking about the join between the roof and the rear scuttle/parcel shelf.

I think you found it in the inside from the car, after disconnecting the gas cable from the engine bay ;)
It is a cover, mounted with bolts ending in the engine bay.

Apparantly covering the throttle pedal? Unfortunately I found it under the passenger seat! My last Minor was a touch modified and missing many of these little touches, I expect there will be more obvious questions as I go.

I found it om my floor, at the passenger location also, after unscrewing some parts from tge engine bay, before painting.
But I have a '51 LHD car ;)[frame]Image[/frame]
On this picture you see him mounted on another Dutch lowlight.

That is a protective cover to go around the accelerator cable where it passes through the bulkhead, so is located just above the clutch pedal area, roughly.
It is crucial that it be fitted, as otherwise an object lying on the parcel shelf could roll over there and jam the throttle open.

Another quick question. Just finished stripping the inside of the car. When did they start painting the dash and glove box gold? I can find no gold under the layers of paint on my car.

Is it possible someone has removed all the painting before paint it in the color from the car?
I only know the gold color, and did not found any notice about different options.
My '51 is original gold.

Certainly is quite possible. However the car has been painted several times and no other part has been stripped first. I have a good 2-3mm of paint. The back side of the dash is the original colour of the car ( Platinum Grey) With the inner portion roughly brush painted silver, I guess to make it more reflective. When I chip away the layers from the front side there is no gold. Wandering if this was a later edition, car is one of the first 8000 built.

I know some pictures from older MM's with the car color on it.
But maybe the base paint can make the story complete, if it is the same as the rest from the car, it can be original...

If its CKD and built outside UK its possible it was always body colour.

Certain parts of CKD cars were completed using locally sourced labour and materials. If anyone has a CKD Minor it would be useful to know what the differences were

The dash of ckd cars built in NZ was painted in body colour from new. Speak to David Greenslade of the Christchurch Minor Club if you need any help with correct spec as he has one of the early NZ lowlights.

Hello Bryan, thank you for confirming that.

I have been in contact with David, he was kind enough to pop round and let me take his Lowlight for a spin. I was having to much fun to notice the dash! I also have his book, that I can recomend. Rather than keep hasling David, I though I would ask on here so that if someone knew the answer it would be available to a larger audience.

I forgot to say that the body colours used for the NZ CKDs were not always the same as the UK colours.
