Help needed! Screw head has been cut off on rear light lens

Post by mistarkos »

Hello all.

I was trying to replace the rear light lens glass on my MM series and the screw head has been cut off so now i can not unscrew it. I sprayed it with 2 different penetrating oil sprays. Now the screw is without a head and I can't take it out. It's the bottom one.

Any advice on how to unscrew it?

Thanx.

You will probably need to drill it out and retap the thread. The old screw is brass chromed so its quite soft to drill. The original thread is an odd size and replacement screws very hard to find so you may need to find something metric to replace it.

I was speaking to Stevey about the ones he repaired on his car, the base was also very soft when he drilled it and and he used chemical metal to repair it and then taped it out to suit a modern size screw.

G'day all
Mistarkos all 4 screws in the rear lights of my MM are 3/16 Whit. I believe they are original.
