MM tourer rear side screens
Hi all,
I've recently bought a 1950 MM tourer project. It's missing lots of bits, but I am reasonably confident that most of them are obtainable either new or second hand.
One of the few bits that worries me is the rear removable side screens which were fitted to the early Tourers. They are completely missing on mine. Does anyone have a set or know if it's possible to buy replacements?
Thanks.

Re: MM tourer rear side screens
I have a spare set that may end up being surplus. I won't know until I have my old ones rebuilt. The steel frames rot like crazy but the shape is simple enough to fabricate. I was going to make a spare set anyway if time permits. The brackets are also not too complicated to make.
The parts which fit the body shell are a bit more of a problem. The hood frame pivots are different, there are captive threads in the shoulder rail which aren't in the saloon (10/32 domed countersunk screws will fit), a piece of flat folded sheet to make a shelf-y thingamabob and then the cast Mazak holes that the screen pegs drop into.
It might take a few months to get sorted. Any urgency?

Put me down for the spare set should they ever become available.
I've got the hood frame, with pivots so hopefully that won't be too much of a problem. I will have a look this evening to see what exactly I've got attached to the body shell.
Thanks,
Will

Second pic shows a 1956 hood frame pivot. The same sort of shape but reversed.

Thanks Rob. I can confirm I've got the correct hood frame pivots but not the Chrome guides which go into the rear Quarter panel.

Re: MM tourer rear side screens
This what I have inherited.
It is a tiny rear removable screen . It's purpose is to support the front door glass as their frames have been chopped off . The hood must have been custom made to wrap around over the rear side screens . I think I could make something like yours so I could use a standard hood .. Are yours a bit floppy ? I would have to construct something quite rigid to support the front the door glass .
I plan to maybe weld some extention pieces to the bottom of the door glass so that when wound up there is more material still in the chanel , I think that will firm the up a bit .

Re: MM tourer rear side screens
Your's isn't a "Jarvis" coupe conversion is it??[frame][/frame]
Re: MM tourer rear side screens
Thanks for the pictures .
Could I also get the dimensions ? It would be really useful
There are similarities to JARVIS , but the hood wraps round , more like MGB . My hood is shredded and rotten . I think the rear side screens would have to be removed to put the hood up , to close the door properly .

Re: MM tourer rear side screens
Would someone post a pic showing the difference between the upper rear quarter panel of a 1948-50 Tourer and that of a 1950-53 please.(intro of the LBM)
When did the hard-top conversion first become available?
Seems to be 2 types of MM bodyshell used during this period.
Will need numbers on NMP plate if I'm to figure this out please.

Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!

Thanks Rob, btw where is the chassis stamp on yours?RobThomas wrote:I'll do the early one, sept 1949. Pics to follow
Anyone do a latter MM Tourer, where are the snap stud (hood) fasteners affixed to?
Believe we'd all like to see this LBM mystery resolved by the Minor's 70th anniversary - can only do this with help from enthusiasts supplying "numbers" and changes.

Re: MM tourer rear side screens
By chassis stamp, do you mean the stamped number hidden below the voltage reg? Hard to read. I'll get a pic if you need it.
Meanwhile...[frame][/frame][frame][/frame]
The first shots from HFH200 and the last from MYH247 (Can't get to the number easily) which is May 24th 1952.
