Has any one got any information on fitting new covers to seats on a 1949 MM
I have a full interia from Newtons but they do not supply any information on fitting them

Just done all the seats on ours. About 20 man hours. One bit at a time using the other side to copy.
Not as nice as the ones we have here that were fitted by Newton themselves. Those are amazingly well finished with all the seams perfectly aligned and all the edges crisp. Shame they are the wrong colour.
The seat bases were a nightmare to stitch to the frame at the bottom since you tie the ends back upwards against the springs. Hard to explain. On ours the front seat upright covers were as-per the original with the rear faces nailed to the frames rather than the Newton way of making a 'glove' that slips over.
What do Newton charge these days to cover your seats???[frame]

£1400 plus vat not cheap but good quality

I was thinking more of the 'labour' costs for then to fit the seat covers. Do they still do that as an option?

Hi Rob
Just got a price from Newtons they want £1100 plus vat to fit the covers to both front seats
Don't think so have to fit ourselves
How did you fit the rear panel to the seats on the old ones they have been stitched to the front section and appear to be the same for the kit from Newtons
Any help would be very much appreciated

On the original MM seats in both our cars the front piece of the vertical section of the seat was nailed to the wooden inserts of the metal frame and then the aft face, a piece of vinyl over a card sheet and with piping on the back,was then tacked to the aft face of the frame with tiny metal tacks that were hidden by the piping once fitted. The Newton seats we have in the loft avoid this complication by making it all one piece. The covers you've got are probably going to look better than if you fitted them the old way. Are you sure your old ones are stitched and not tacked?

Yes the back of the seat with the material on a card backing is sown to the front section of the seat material i was thinking the best way is you mentioned is to secure in place with tacks and cover with Hidem a banding ?
