Alta engine differences

Post by TvdWerf »

I can get a garage clear out, with also a complete Alta engine and other Morris parts...
How interesting is it to change my original engine with this one?

THat depends on what you are interested in
The alta OHV head produces a lot more power and is more efficient by design than the sidevalve

it will also stick out a bit if you like showing off to other sidevalve owners due to the rarity.

if you don't like it, send it my way

Too Heavy for an envelope ;)
But what should be an acceptable price for an engine like this?
I promised the man to clean his store, a lot other (later) parts are in there.

I paid £1300 for mine as a running engine with gearbox and twin carbs. Rebuilt and in fantastic condition, apart from one valve needing to be ground in and the top water elbow being a bit corroded. If you have ALL the parts there it will make a great engine.

If the top water elbow is corroded then Will is after getting me to re-cast some new ones. I'll only be doing this once so let me know if you need one. :D

If the head is not attached to the engine you can see the condition. If it is attached to the engine it may be severely corroded and will cost a fortune to repair

I will see what is the condition.
What I understand, is the risk from a damaged engine.
But nobody can live without a little bit luck ;)

If the top water exit is corroded then let me know? Will wants me to cast him a new one and it is a long job so easier to make 2 at the same time. I don't plan to make any more. :D
