Rubber Buffers

Help!!! I am putting together my 53 high light at last and noticed small holes on the underside of the wing where it meets the front valance are these to fit rubber buffers into ? like I see advertised for later models any idears out there please

That is correct. Originally the rubber buffers were fixed with a bifurcated rivet.

Furniture buffers will work, just make sure the pin is copper or something that won't corrode.
