MM gearbox

Hi gearbox on a 1949 MM is the same gearbox fitted to a series e Morris 8
Mine is jammed in 4th gear after attending a classic car show today

Same internals but the casing is different. I have recently o/h my spare and the guts of the 1939 series E box went straight in to my MM casing. :D

There are several on e bay but i cannot tell if 3 speed or 4.

3-speed is shorter so that it doesn't have an extended casing that goes much beyond and inch aft of the back edge of the top cover plate, if you see what I mean.

The g'box of a Series E and MM are identical except for the rear housing refered to as 'Casing - speedometer drive' in the manual. The mounting lugs are different and possibly the speedometer drive gear.

By any chance do you or anyone else have a series e speedo housing casting so I can finish my dads Morris 8 πŸ™

...or is it the iron casting you need. I'm not sure from your description.

Ah, right. The bit that the engine mount rubbers bolt onto. Series E ones further forwards?
I've probably only got Series 1 or 2 castings here but will have a look.

Yes that’s the one. Cast iron with rear mounting hole lugs.
