Greetings, Recently the water pump began to leak at small but annoying rate. Please can the lowlight gurus/ readers advise just who is currently best to provide a suitable and reasonable refurbishment service. Welcome your feedback. Regards...spike

Is it worth doing ? Mine was badly corroded so I bought a new one from Davd Manners ( around £13 ) .

Don't get spike over-excited. He's after info on side-valve water-pumps. Seventeen quid gets you a 948/1098 pump. David Manners don't list a side valve pump, and their ohv 803cc pump is over fifty quid!

Bryan, the club spares manager, should be able to help. He has a UK company that reseals them with better, waterproof bearings. I've used the same company but cannot remember the name. The original carbon seal is the problem and I doubt you'll find many spare new ones, although it might be worth trying the spares place about 1 mile south of the Holiday Inn, Junction 4-ish of the M4. Again, I can't remember the name. Anyone?

Yes, EPS. They did mine and when I filled it with grease it failed and they fixed it for free. turns out that if you fill a sealed bearing with grese via the nipple then it merely forces the bearings right out of their holders! Oops! They didn't mention they were sealed and they refitted the nipple, so....I guess I couldn't really be blamed.

Even if the bearings are not sealed damage can be caused to the water pump if excessive grease is pumped into it and that is applicable to all those pumps that have a lubrication facility.
