Ignition and Light Switch problems

Post by gtt1951 »

I'm getting a bit downhearted with my Low-light project as I keep finding more things that were botched.
The ignition switch wasn't bolted in and I found out after a while, why not - it needed to be turned upside-down to work the key at times!

It can't be mounted upside down as the "lump" on the switch doesn't then marry up with the mounting plate.
After oiling it, I seem to have it working but, at times, need to turn the key to the left, first, before it will move to the right.
After refitting the ignition switch, the lights failed - it turned out that the wires to the rear of the light switch weren't connected too well and the blue/red one had fallen out.

I decided to properly reconnect everything and the light switch panel bezel came off very easily. Having reconnected all the switch wiring, the chrome bezel won't go back on the switch, except for about a quarter turn - the wrong bezel may have been fitted, as the threads don't look that damaged.

Do I bite the bullet and just get a replacement switch, or does someone know what the thread is so that I can see if I have a die to tidy it up?

George.

Got my M10 fine die yesterday and tried it on the switch - not a lot of room with the die held in a holder, but managed to get a half turn, which was enough to start off the lock ring.
Light switch now fitted back in the dash panel - all good thanks.
