How to clean one's chrome grille

Post by Onne »

How can I clean my MMs grille? I thought I'd better ask, don't want to damage
it!

I daren't use rubbing compound, as it is fairly fragile piece of chromework

Onne,

Before I sent my grille and front panel to Johnathon for him to take moulds from, I thought I would clean up the chrome on the grille as it was very tarnished (purchased like this years before).
As I thought I was going to rechrome it anyway, I just used loads of soap and a brillo pad to remove the worst, and surprisingly it responded to this method by actually cleaning up fine. I finished it off with solvol and I reckon it would be totally useable like this - better than my other grille which was rechromed.
It depends how bad your grille really is, as I say I got a surprise, but if the chrome is peeling and lifting, then a re chrome job is required.

Mine is a bit dented, but all the chrome is still in place.
It's just the good old days when chrome was made to last!

Cillit bang is quite good at reviving dull chrome (don;t leave it on for too long, though). but irs rubbish as a general cleaner for all other pruposes!
