So , out of interest , how many folk on here do not care about the FJ advert or are irritated by it. Is a poll an effective way to judge opinions as its annonymous??.

I suggest you start a poll Jono.
Nothing contentious - just a basic poll to judge peoples feelings, ie
1 - I Like it
2 - I Don't like it
3 - I Hadn't noticed it
4 - I Ad block it....?

As it has been brought to my attention! I rang FJ and have managed to HALVE my buildings and contents!
I can put up with one ad (specially this one!) but is it the tip of the iceberg?
Lots of them drive me mad.

I fear it might be, but hope that the powers that be have taken on board some constructive criticism.

Now that the FJ add has been removed from the forum can someone explain why. I was one of those who couldnt care less whether it was their or not but it would be nice to know the reasoning behind it's inclusion in the first place and subsequent removal.
(please note no complaint, moan, girn, insult etc etc just a request for enlightenment)

It's not been removed - it's currently on the front page of the main club website! It was never actually 'in the forum' as it was on the club's header section. It wasn't so pleasant to the eye when it was on the header and wasn't so relevant t every page, and looks better placed where it is now - not that I had anything whatsoever to do with it!
The club website is run for the club, and they give a fabulous service, with continual upgrades, like maintaining the online membership renewal, installing online ordering for club regalia, or more recently the resto projects section etc...

Where the club committee/webmasters choose to advertise the club's own exclusive insurance scheme, is rather up to the club to choose! The same goes for club regalia - people (well, maybe 1 at least) have even complained about that being shown on the club's website :-?
The forum is a very well repected part of the club website, and I'm certainly grateful for it, but it is only a part of the many things our wonderful Webmasters have to do.

Thank you Ray I feel enlightened as to it's 'removal'.
Believe it or not I was not making any comment regarding the website/moderators/webmasters etc as I as much as some and more than others really appreciate the help and assistance from the club and members of this forum.
I would agree with your statement its 'up to the club to chose' although as a member I may have a different interpretation of the word 'club' and obviously we would not like to infringe on our own rules. Would we?

Don't worry - I didn't think you were either (although one or two others have been known to have Webmasters or Moderators in their crosshairs).

Not completely sure what you meant there. Occasionally there is confusion regarding Trade advertising in the 'forum' (i.e. the content of forum user's own posts), and the club advertising it's own products/services on it's own site. Is that what you meant?

Most of the time, it's very clear cut - the only time I've been flumoxed was regarding 'unnofficial regalia' being sold via the forum (many years ago a friendly forum member made a range of club forum T-shirts). In essence it was in the club spirit (by a club member, for the club), but as it wasn't through the club books, a trader asked if this was also classed as 'trade'.
In 10 years, that's the only one that I know of which was in a grey area (and was allowed anyway).

I dont believe most of us would complain about the club advertising its own products/services nor preventing trade suppliers advertising for free on the forum.
What I really meant was the general 'ban' on trade advertising appears not to have been applied uniformly in the FJ case. Some of the traders appear to have been, in my mind, quite justifiably agrieved.
Rules should be applied across the board, sensibly and consistently.

There is no general ban on trade advertising - it is merely banned from the open forum (i.e. post content). The ad was there for the club's own exclusive insurance scheme.
Most people are happy not to be swamped with adverts on the forum - we do get people trying to advertise (spam) anyway, even with the ban but as soon as one of those appears, there'll be complaints to the moderators, so they rarely stay there very long.
The majority of traders have their own websites and the club website used to give links to trader websites (I'm not sure if that page is still active - the entire website has been rebuilt to make a maintainable version). If it's not there at present it's likely to return.
