Anyone know about Renaults ???
Daughter's car - only 3000 miles but 15 months old - little orange 'spanner' light has come up on the dash. Does this just mean 'get it serviced' - or is it something more serious ? All fluids are fine and the car runs fine. Have asked on the 'Renault' forum - but it's absolutely dead !! Any advice on this is very welcome indeed.

It's the service light. The car probably uses long life oil, but the ECU also records distances covered each trip, and flags a service if it's doing a lot of short journeys. 15 months sounds about right, I got 18 months out of the Polo before the service light came on, but the oil is £54 for 4 litres.

My Astra also used the spanner symbol for a service due. Sounds like it could be the same with the Renault - does the car also have the engine management light symbol - usually the picture of an engine, comes on when you turn on the ignition and then goes off. This would indicate a separate light for malfunction.

It should be in the instruction book that came with the car, but yes, it's definitely only a service light, nout to worry about, as long as you don't leave it too long before getting a service done (if still under warranty).bmcecosse wrote:Thanks MT - that's my feeling - but is it really just that ? So far the Renault forum is hopeless (certainly compared to this one !) - I did ask in another web site - and they said they would tell me for £24 !!!!!!!
I'd clear it for you, but my latest OBD2 FCR only does VAG group

Yes thanks for that PM - however this Clio has no trip reset button - it's all computerised. And the B@$!@rds want £161 for the first service - to change the oil and filter on a car that's only done 3000 miles. Not short journeys either - just not used often! Never again will we be buying a Renault - it's a complete Rip Off.

If it's the daughter's car, shouldn't she be paying for the maintenance herself?!bmcecosse wrote:I'm a poor retired pensioner these days!! Gordon Clown has taken all my money. £161 is NOT cheap!!!

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.

I've only ever had one Renault (21 Savanah) and that was enough for me to say I'll never, under any circumstances, have one again.bmcecosse wrote:Never again will we be buying a Renault
A friend had 3 brand new (2 x Espace and Scenic for wife) who says same thing.
Try getting parts and you will find that you cann't buy indvidual items - only whole units.
Espace for example was dripping water down cracked seal on wiper arm spindle. No new seal available from Renauilt - only a complete wiper assembly at around £500 (fitted).
