Ever so easy to take the end off and clean the "points". You will need a little bit of emery paper, from a car spares place. 600 grit is ideal. I'm sure there must be a link on the forum to how to do it  Well done for tackling the distributor. Sorry if I sounded condescending, but you gave the impression of being helpless, no offence meant :D

No worries, i am helpless and my favourite quote to my OH is that there are jobs for men and jobs for women and women shouldnt fiddle about with cars!! However, now i have Daphne i want to learn and he had shown me the clips on the distributer cap before which was why i was brave enough to look for the bonnet catch!!
And..... i couldnt let the bl...y school kids have the last laugh!! I was just lucky she started after i put the bonnet down!!
I will attempt the fuel pipe tomorrw, having a go prob the only way to learn!

Heh, my dad used to say there were jobs for men (everything except hoovering) and jobs for women (everything including hoovering).

Sometimes I think he just didn't like hoovering ;)

Thats a link to the workshop manual, full of very usefull stuff, has helped me!. Gratz on getting your car started, must have been a sticky situation with all thoase kids!. If i saw a minor which had brokcked down i would offer to help not laugh. Anyway the morris minor is extremly easy to work on and fix.

Also would anyone here help me a bit?, i think my fuel pump gone too. I cant hear a thing. But i started it once when i didnt hear a thing, could this just be some left over petrol in the float chamber?. If so, how can i check the float chamber?

Easy. Take fuel pipe off where it enters carburettor, put in jam jar, switch ignition on. If fuel pump working it will pump petrol into the jar! Not much in the carburettor to really go wrong, unlike many which have lots of little jets to block, the SU doesn't!

another little tip have a can of wd40 handy so if the car dies in the rain you can spray the distributer cap and the plug leads and you should get going again .

So - do you think you 'tapped' the fuel pump now you have seen the picture ? It probably needs the points cleaned - they are under the plastic top - and can be easily cleaned by drawing an emery board through between the points.
I imagine your daughters will now suddenly be very keen on walking to skool!

Sorry, im hijacking this thread for a moment :p

So, i went to check if it was the fuel pump. To my joy it was!, allthough i can now smell petrol, no spark. I traced this down to a burnt HT lead going from the coil. No problem, i went to my shelf pull out my leads distro etc planning to replace... guess what?, the two dizzy caps looked difrent, the one on the car has all the leads going from one side, the pther one i have has all the leads going from the top. Somebody, please tell me i havent been a complete idiot and tell me they are interchangable!.

I calmly got out, lifted the bonnet and thought RIGHT - everyone says how easy it is so i sort of fiddled with everything under the bonnet, wacked everything with the handle of a screwdriver, put the bonnet down and she started perfectly!!

Was very proud of myself!! :P
Glad its not just you, our 2 daughters (10 & 14) don't really want to travel in the Minor either, especially the eldest yet all her friends like it

Im female so i couldnt possibly expect you to understand even if i tried to explain - men never understand womens logic!!

As for not crossing me...... i caught a burgerler ( have you ever tried spelling that) last week who almost begged the police to take him!!!!

Do i reckon i tapped the fuel pump - to be honest im not sure ... i tapped everything i could see and just got lucky i think but it has given me more confidence to have a go!!

I used to carry a small hammer "to tap everything with" when that got removed from the car I resorted to the heel of my shoe - did the trick!
