VAT

Post by pjh56 »

Just a reminder to anybody having expensive work that needs doing or for people spending a few quid on parts or spares, that VAT returns to normal. The standard rate of VAT was temporarily reduced to 15 per cent on 1 December 2008 and it will return to 17.5 per cent on 1 January 2010.

You can save yourself a few bob on tax and then put it towards the car rather than the taxman's pocket. :D

Yes it was in with the last VAT return. I wonder whether all this talk of VAT going to 20% was to make people feel relieved when it only goes back to 17.5% (Or am I a cynic). If VAT really does go up to 20% later on, then we all need to get spending!!

Has been a pain in the neck. Whilst our website will alter automatically(Though we end up with silly prices, ending in odd pence), shop items still carry price tickets (Once website can be integrated with bar code system, we may do away with tickets - though tickets are handy???). I've taken to putting two tickets on (We are not self service) and crossing out the one which does not apply as it is sold. At least we've had a bit more warning this time around.

As Ken Dodd said, when asked if he had ever considered going into politics, "I'd like to be Chancellor of the Exchequer, so I can be reunited with my money" .

The Jan 1st change is also in the middle of a Vat quarter, Causing my Business partner all kinds of headaches.

Luckily I'm just the technical guy so I leave the paperwork to her :)
