Nintendo DS & DSi XL

Does anyone know if the DSi XL uses the same game cartridges as the old DS Lite please?

For DS games, yes, but there is no Game Boy Advanced slot in the DSi or DSi XL. This mean some games, like guitar hero that used the GBA slot for the coloured buttons, will not work. This only affects a small number for games and we've never had a problem.

they also dont work the old r4 cards, need ot buy a newer one.

You might have trouble buying a new R4 card as Nintendo won a court case in July last year which made the importing, selling or advertising of R4 cards illegal in the UK. I only became aware of this when my niece asked me to buy her one for Christmas!
