Favourite Beers

Post by moggiethouable »

After a great many years of trial and error I have decided my favourite beer is Double Maxim.
Coincidentally it was the first beer I ever tried.
38 years ago to be precise, you mustnt rush something like that, you need to be certain :D

Wow!
I thought that when Vaux brewery ceased brewing that was it.
My Moggy Traveller in the early 70`s carried many a bottle of Double Maxim en route to parties in Sunderland.
I certainly will be looking out for it when I have identified a retailer.

Desperados? I must admit I thought it was an alco-pop but a quick search reveals;
Description:
A full-bodied, highly refreshing beer with an extra kick of Tequila flavouring.
I'll try one next time I see it.

I'm partial to a Corona with a slice of lime in the summer, real ale in the pub and cheap weak lager at home :)

Quite a contrast there lambrettalad, I'm no beer snob being a Carlsburg drinker, but even I draw the line at Budweiser Ice!
Budvar is said to be very nice though.

A pint (or several) of Sam Smiths Museum was my favourite of all time but they stopped brewing it :( Nearest I can find now is Sam Smiths Sovereign which, whilst good, just tastes like a watered down version of Museum. Pity that it's not still around

In my yoof Vaux Samson or Camerons Strong Arm: occasionally a trip to N. York moors for some Theakstons Old Peculiar straight from the cask.

Now:
McEwans Champion
Adnams (almost anything but especially Broadside)
Greene King Abbott ale (GK Winter Ale is also v.good)
Mauldons Blackadder
Almost anything Belgian, especially the brown beers such as Dubbel Brun
Speckled Hen

Occasional blond beer in the summer, cool at the end of a work day.
Definately not lager - tastes of nothng and would spoil the stripey woolly jumper image cultivated over many years

This exercise has made me realise how much I like beer...

Just realised MoggieThouable, Wetherspoons beer festival this month includes Double Maxim, so it is still out there :)

Ah yes, still very much available.
When Vaux closed a couple of directors had the good sense to acquire the rights to continue to brew it, no longer in brown bottles, but it still tastes the same to me.
£1.98 a pint at my local off door, I need to convice my local to stock it, the wife may never see me again.
According to their website tesco, asda morrisons and sainsburys also stock it.Thanks to all for the other brews to try as well.

Local to where, a pint in the Telegraph where we have our meetings is now £3.50!
Not a happy bunny, next thing you know it will be £4.

Our local draught beers are even cheaper in my local,"inebriate by the sea" on the North East coast of course :D
I think its all about supply and demand, purchasing power talks up ere lad.
We will all die prematurely of alcohol poisoning of course, but there are worse ways to go!
