I tend to use this free online tool for both work and club purposes:

If you ever lash out on Office 2010, then you can save as PDF direct from the app, no additional software required.

Thanks lads! I need to be able to convert various railway related documents to PDF form - so my Kobo can handle them... Lash out on Office 2010? Not likely - I have a perfectly good version that came with the Laptop - but doesn't appear to have a PDF converter......

There is a very good alternative to MS Office and that is Softmaker office. There is an older free (yes FREE Mr BMC :D ) version (2010) that allows viewing/printing/exporting to PDF. Check it here...http://www.officeviewers.com/

Apache Open Office http://www.openoffice.org/

This is a FREE replacement for MS Office, and opens most (if not all) MS Office documents, and allows export as PDF. I've used it a few times to generate PDFs for this site.

You don't need an app with Office 2007 either, this is what I've got.[frame]Image[/frame]Or just try "Save as" and you might get PDF as one of the format options.

Phew, that was close. Good that you already had it. :)
You can keep all the North Sea oil, that will save you having to watch for the latest deals at Wilko's. Not sure of the API spec. though.

SoftMaker FreeOffice

Post by Willy »

SoftMaker FreeOffice is a good recommendation. It's an excellent free office suite for all who need true compatibility with Microsoft Office, because it's the only that doesn't destroy formatting. It opens any kind of my MSO files properly, other than OpenOffice or LibreOffice, they screw up everything. You can open your documents, press the pdf button, and by one mouseclick that's it. Plus, SoftNMaker FreeOffice is feature-packed, small (58MB), fast, and very reliable. Not as known as OpenOffice or LibreOffice, but mich better in my opinion.

You forgot that it can also run from a USB stick in portable mode. :D

I use a free program called PDFCreator on my work computer.

It allows you to "print" as a PDF, allowing you to make PDFs from any program which will allow you to print. There are other PDF printers too
