Had this modified Wolseley for getting on 9 months now and been steadily refurbing many parts of it including rechroming the front grille and bumpers etc.Never realised until today when I opened the other garage door to do some work around the boot area that the rear bumper is a standard moggy!Last owner has cleverly cut the apron to follow the contour of the valance. No alterations have had to be made to it.The overriders will be going though because even though theyre in excellent condition theyre actually plastic! You cant tell until you touch them.[frame]Image[/frame]

A friend of mine used to have one with an an original 1250cc engine, nice car but the only thing that let it down was the column gear change, rather sloppy at times.
The bonnet went on for ever and of course you always knew it was a Wolseley because of the illuminated grill badge. :D
I had the Wolseley 15/50 version in a deep black colour; and the only car in which I could do over 300 miles and get out the other end and feel as if I had only done 3 miles. That front bench seat was so comfortable. Eventually I fitted a Riley 4/72 engine into it and installed the Riley 4/72 wheels and used it for towing a trailer carrying my Minor.
The only time it let me down was when the clutch hydraulic rubber pipe failed.
Interestingly I purchased the Wolseley off a church Cannon and on occasions used the Wolseley to tow a trailer carrying a cannon (Sweet Lips) belonging to the Sealed Knot.

Hi Phil.I wonder how the 1250 ever got it rolling as its quite a heavy lump!I bought this last year.Last owner bought it already converted and drove it for 2 years never touching a thing,he just loved driving it.When I bought it I set to "doing it up" as cosmetically and mechanically it was very lacking! The original wool headlining was black with age, door cards were in tatters and brushpainted black, dashboard was ugly with lots of modern clocks and switches and buttons.Heater had been removed, all the window rubbers and felts had perished, overspray everywhere etc etc.Its got an SD1 Rover V8 3.5 and 5 speed,MGB disks at the front and MGB rear axle.TR6 rear wheels to compensate for the narrower axle,Renault rad,LandRover TREs,MGF front leather seats etc, servo is in passenger glovebox and reservoir in the drivers one! They will be moved into the engine bay.Column change obviously gone and umbrella handbrake too.I'm gradually working through it.All new doorcards and headlining, much rechroming, got all the original clocks working(temp gauge is Austin 1300 innards, timeclock is modern quartz but behind the original white faces),recoloured the front seats to match the rest, all new felts and rubbers(rear windows were absolutely solid and hadnt been wound in donkeys years),just fitting a temp controlled fan and a modern fusebox and relays as the dash is an absolute nightmare of wires and connectors all using the original 2 fuses!I plan to fit a modern kit car type heater unit to at least demist the screen! The handbrake is too far back on the tunnel so will be moved forward and the gear lever extension is going to be altered to appear to be further forward(SD1 LT77 box is a big item)!Must say though I'm enjoying working through it all and it will certainly be a one-off although there are a couple of other similarly converted Magnettes in the world.Spares arent easy though!Moggy owners don't know theyre born parts wise.

The Wolseley 4/44 was no performance car but it did what it was supposed to do and that was get you around in a reasonable amount of comfort. Wolseley's were always as were Rover cars considered to be a gentleman's car. I learnt to drive at an early age of about 15 years old and before obtaining my driving licence on my fathers Wolseley 8 of 1946/1948. I was fortunate enough to have access to private roads at that time.
When working in the BMC garage I used to look after a Wolseley 15/50 fitted with a Manumatic clutch operating system which had a electro/vacuum/servo system for clutch operation. It was a pleasure to drive but rest your hand on the gear knob and the clutch would disengage. If you wanted to change gear you just touched the gear knob, the clutch would disengage and then you could change gear as normal. Take your hand off the gear knob and the clutch would engage. A simple system when working but a b----r when it went wrong.
I decided to scrap my Wolseley 15/50 after a farmer ran full tilt into the front of the car (he was looking out of the passenger window at his sheep at the time and did not see me), not a lot of damage to the Wolseley but his Mini van was a right off. After the accident the windscreen started to leak rain water and the sills were starting to rot etc., etc., the Riley 4/72 engine and the Wolseley diff/halfshafts went into a J4 van and the gearbox went into a modified A35 saloon so the parts kept other vehicles on the road.

Another person with taste! Its about to get another moggy addition. The handbrake fitted by the modifier was fitted so far back it was easier for the rear seat passenger to use. This was because in my opinion the v8 and box were fitted too far back(must have been less of a headache to use the original engine mounting position etc, etc). When in second with handbrake released the gear lever and handbrake were almost touching.I am going to turn the gearlever round so it points forwards and replace the handbrake(no idea of its origin but it looked too modern anyway)with one from a different make of car.I noticed today that my moggy handbrake assembly is 4" shorter than whats in at the moment so I've just bought one from Tomroy.Just need a bit of surgery on the tunnel and move it forward a bit.I also need to buy a heater unit as the 4/44 had its heater removed(presumably it took up too much space).I reckon the least I will need is the means to demist the screen so I'm going to buy a modern slim heater unit designed for kit cars. Its coming together slowly!
