I didn't know how lucky I was. Wearing paper clogs. Going to school in hand-me-down clothes... they were my sister's. I wasn't brought-up, I was dragged-up :D :D :D

My hobbies other than Morris minors are fishing and railways.
I'm a steam driver & fireman and also a diesel driver on a heritage railway.
Only trouble is my shifts mean I work most weekends so can't get to the railway as often as I used to.
It also hinders my ability to go to classic car rally's.
oh well, at least it pays for the minor restoration!

No sid I haven't. I volunteer on an industrial based line (colliery). Mainly small shunters. We do however have the britains powerful industrial steam loco which is a Peckett called Mardy Monster. It is quite the beast.

There is something fascinating about industrial rail operations especially when steam is involved.

That was when she was almost at the end of her boiler ticket. Extremely worn but still had the muscle.
She's getting overhauled at the moment and should be back in steam next year.
No expense spared so she will be like out of the factory.

Phil, I find steam power to be amazing in trains or traction engines, Just down the road from me is a steam water pumping station that was restored about 10 years ago, Sadly i think it has since closed but i usd to love seeing it running and the size of it was stunning.

The tragedy , and indeed the challenge to our Society and how it functions, is that those bent on destroying our democratic "western" way of life, actually make use of the tolerance within it in order to give them free rein in pursueing their aims. They demand a tolerance for thier own intolerance, as a Spiegel Reporter put it.

Being bombed and interfered with BY "our democratic way of life" MAY have peeved them a tad!

The net result of the almost unprecedented violence in the 20th century has led to society's rejection of any warlike moves, despite the determined provocation.

And having an interest in such things is also a Passion of mine.
Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!

I have had a bit of a dabble in live steam. A 5" gauge Crampton 4-2-0 loco built by Brian Arridge. I purched his plans and followed the construction series in the 'Engineering in Miniature' magazine. Main difference the tender water tank and coal hopper were made from brass sheet with over 1200 rivets.

@ BLOWNMM, That just looks amazing and detailed well, I have a friend that makes model airstream trailers with hundreds of tiny rivets, I admire the dedictation modellers have.

That steam-powered model locomotive is phenomenal. Great work!

I thought you all might be amused - in the novel I'm writing, I have a scene set in an alternate Oslo, Norway, which in the novel is part of the United Kingdom (don't ask), and the main character in the scene drives a Morris Mosquito. 8)

Scrabble is far from tedious, I have friends who have expanded the board and added bags of tiles to create longer games, I know a few people who have used scrabble word values to create number codes for enigma games, It is all good for the brain.

I am into woodturning and belong to a chapter . We have a national seminar each year and a project is chosen for all the chapters to make. A bike was the item a few years ago and we made a high-nelly. I made the chain, pedals, cranks, sprocket and wheel sprocket, the chain had 550 pieces alone and was to actual size. Also i finished the pieces with Lacquer. We donated the bike to our local cancer charity and its on display at our local hospital where it is used to collect donations
