What ho, chums!
Our local Primary School has set the above task for its 4 to 11 years olds and I've just had a crack and got within 0.0025% of the real value! It uses a an updated version of Eratosthenes' method back in about 200 B.C. which you will remember uses measurement of shadows at the summer solstice. Anyway you need a reason to get out from under the Mog so read here https://www.schoolsobservatory.org/solstick and have a go! Who says "Big Science" is difficult? A child can do it!
Regards from MikeN.

Be better off teaching them how to pay household bills and fending for themselves when they get older rather than relying on the bank of Mum and Dad.
