He hasn't heard of citric acid but should be congratulated on a meticulous and skilful job.

I just add it to my to-watch list before going to bed later. Thanks for sharing it.

A concourse vice, ready for competition.......

I admire his skills and envy his fully equiped workshop, he must do fine restorations...... but a vice????
He must have too much time on his hands, somebody pass him a rusty Morris Minor! :P
A large vice is a very useful item but he'll never use it for fear of damaging the paintwork......
I'd have freed it off, greased it up where required, bolted it to my bench and put it to use, which is what I did with my large vice, which was also destined for the skip until I rescued it.
Best wishes,
Mike.

Have to agree with Mike, the guy's a bit OCD doing all that to a working tool....

Edited because I can be OCD about my own grammar mistakes.... .

The small version is more in my league:-

Saying that I think I shall stick with my Record No: 5 steel unbreakable vice with quick release.

How about this for a vice:-
Presented like that and on that stand it reminds me of Singer sewing machines, back from days of old, when we used to make things that sold all over the world in this country........

Wow! Have you seen the prices? £5,500 PLUS VAT for the 'daddy' vice and £1650 PLUS VAT for the 'baby' vice.

If I could afford those sort of amounts for a vice, I think I would be able to afford someone else to do the job for me..........so I could carry on counting my money :D
On the other hand, if I have interpreted it correctly, the daddy vice here is something of a bargain as it's only 1/8th of the price of an original
Bugatti jobbie.......now, tell me, who pays £44,000 (possibly plus vat?) for a vice?

I presume it is the same Bugatti company that we all know and love, is it? If so, which came first the car or the vices?
I know a few high end cars came from humble beginnings such a cycles and tractors but it's a quantum leap from a vice (even a very, very nice one!) to a luxury motorcar.

If it was the other way round and the cars came first, I would love to have been in that meeting in the Bugatti marketing department, when they were discussing what 'must have' accessories no self-respecting Bugatti owner should be without. Not the usual key fobs, golf bags, luggage etc..........''I know, let's tempt all the owners with a £44,000 vice. What do you think boys?''

In the unlikely event of my wife allowing me to spend £44,000 on any vice I wanted .........let's just say, a Bugatti one wouldn't be my first choice!

If I could afford that sort of money for a vice, I still wouldn't be spending it on one.

I have my mother's 1939 Singer which I learned to sew on, and I still use it, mainly for heavy jobs like layers of denim and odd jobs. It was one of the background noises of my childhood, Mum sewed everything from curtains to clothes.
Using it is like driving a Morris Minor, solid and satisfying.
