Astral Traveller

Post by mrgreg »

Astral Traveller Does anyone remeber it ??? With the help of Pete (plastic orange) I`ve been trying to find if it still exist.
Anyway no luck, so if I can find a shell going to have a go at building a near replica (hence the add in wanted).
It was featued in custom car in the early 70`s.
But thats all I know. Greg :D

Here's a link to a Modded Minor feature elsewhere - and a pic of the aforesaid Astral Traveller:

I exchanged a few emails with the builder of Astral Trav. Not sure if I still have his details, but he was still into cars.

i realise i am in danger of bring the thread back on topic...

the reg number GSR 306 is not on the DVLA database so it would appear not to be with us or could be sitting in some ones garage somewhere..

Dunc Wood who helped George Watt build Astral Traveller was still dabbling in Minors a while back. He is a paint sprayer in the Angus area, but I'm not sure where he is working now since his premises burnt down a couple of years ago. I've no idea about George - he never built anything else as far as I know.
I'll contact Dunc to see if he knows anything, but my quest to purchase the car ended 20 odd years ago with no sucesss - I'm sure it's gone.

That's some car and I like the name but was it realy fast enough to have that name and I imagine 40 years ago it probably was, so he must have been a bit of a cloud walker 8)

It would still be a quick car even today - Ford 289 engine out of a Mustang, E type IRS, Westminster front clip, 8 x15's on front and 10 x15's rear. It did have a steering geometry problem, but this could have been rectified, and possibly was later on. The engine could have been tweaked to 500+ bhp if he wished and if the car had evolved certainly would have been. I think it was a ground breaking car in it's day - it won national awards.

Wow that thread must include nearly every modified Minor ever built. There are so many on there that I have never seen.

The Citroen BX powered Traveller was especially interesting ...... http://www.beardmorebros.co.uk/website% ... llsize.htm

Just heard that it was last seen in Inverness about 17yrs ago ??
Had the engine taken out and left in a garage.
There must be someone out there who know`s its whereabouts ?? I`ve got money burning a hole in my pocket. :(
