Hi All, fitted up for a trial my rs escort axle and had in my mind the cables from the morris would be a direct bolt on by making up some brackets welded to the axle but no.. the minor ones are roughly 3" too short.
can anyone tell me how everyone has got around this, what cables to use, where to get them from or a easy modification to the handbrake mechanism?
cheers

Re: escort axle handbrake cable issue
just found out that JLH sells two cables that fit for £50, are these custom made to fit the morris or just cables that fit off another car?
if they are custom made and everyone on here that has a escort axle uses these then fair enough no other choice
cheers

Re: escort axle handbrake cable issue
ohc_turbo,
I have the RS2000 rear axle on my Moggy and I just made some pieces of flat bar to make up the extra 3", with holes in each end to put a fixing pins through. I used 3 pieces (1 joined to 2 to give equal pull on the cylinder) and allow some articulation. As it's been on there at least 10 years and the handbrake works fine and has never jammed I would say that's the cheap option.
Regards,
Wal

Marina Handbreak assembily will give you a direct fit.
Thats what ive got fitted.
If not then why not fit the Ford handbreak assembly?

Re: escort axle handbrake cable issue
I found that using my original MM handbrake lever did not give sufficient pull on my Capri Axle, so I changed it to a Ford item, and just shortened the cable (actually I just cut it and had it joined back together by a local ship chandler) - worked just fine.

Thanks for the replies guys
I think I'll try the extension bars and see how that goes

Re: escort axle handbrake cable issue
I extended the threaded part of a moggie cable, i had a peice of tube with the correct thread cut in, wound it half on the original cable and used a nut to lock the thread, then wound a peice of threaded bar in the other end, again with a locking nut to stop it all undoing, and there you have a longer cable. The fixing point needs moving back in the floor, and need to make a bracket on the axle to. job done. you could of course weld 6 or 8 nuts together if you dont have a bit of tube and a tap, does the same job if welded properly.
cheers, Daniel
