Project V8 2 years on

Post by meerkat »

The car has been running well with only a few teething troubles, oil leak from gearbox, needed new output seal, speedo cable snapped, re modified new cable and fitted, exhaust gasket. Have upgraded the ignition system and fitted a new Edelbrock carb. Car pulls like a train and isn't too bad on fuel, went to France last year and caused quite a stir wherever it went. looking forward to some events this year. Any recommendations?

it would be great to see you at the national rally..

there is a very active group of modified / customised on the morris minor owners site and they regularly try to get together at shows around the country..

Have read in depth the thread of plastic orange and his new minor and it has inspired me to start thinking about pro street. now the problem I have do I make some major mods to mine or start again. what about a convertible? I shall give some careful thought before the start at the end of the summer.

A few 'issues' to consider with pro street though - they don't go round corners quite as quickly as a well sorted 'normal' configuration vehicle. Also, I've discovered I really need a rear anti roll bar as the leverage on the shocks causes a bit of rear roll. If you up the springs rates to compensate, the ride becomes too harsh. It's all a compromise though.
You could convert yours - just narrow the jag rear, fit wheel tubs, and narrow the front suspension. The jag IRS probably wouldn't suffer the same roll as the solid rear I have fitted.

Took the car to Shakespear county raceway, it ran 15.5 1/4 mile. Came away saying I'm going to need a bigger engine, so I'm now looking for a 4.6 range rover engine. Have spoken to RPI engineering who deal with hot V8's and without too much difficulty hope to get over 250 bhp but crucially a whole load more of torque. here's hoping.

RPI aren't the best folk to speak to with regard to performance - and they are mega pricey. Best to join up here for all things Rover V8 and absorb the information: http://www.v8forum.co.uk/forum/index.ph ... cdc094a89c
My Rover engined minor - 3.9 with edelbrock carb and inlet, hurricane cam, headers etc does a repetitive 14.7 @ 95 mph. It would go faster if I emptied the boot contents and lowered the tyre pressures.

My rover powered minor did consistent 14.5's last time out :D
My Ls1 powered one managed a 12.9 during a shakedown run - that's with me backing off, so I'd guess 11's is likely.
