Looking at the picture , I guess you've gained / increased the circumference by a millimeter or two ? If you want to stick with the cylinder , then filing a mm or two off the flat edge of the brake shoes ( the " contact area " ) wouldn't do any harm. Keep the line straight when filing and do a little metal removal on each end, getting rid of any burrs ( so nothing catches ).

Cheers Bob, it's closed it up enough to get the drum on nice and easy. Finally getting somewhere, now I can lower the car back onto it's wheels, move it across so there's clearance on the offside to get the halfshaft out without fouling it against the garage wall, then I can move on and change the oil seals on that side too. oh the joys of a single garage.

Was the handbrake lever fully retracted?

yes thanks J, the brake lever was fully down, the spring has stretched a bit and wasn't doing a great job of closing the piston. I need to eat and do something a little less strenuous for a bit, my wife Jane just got back from a shopping trip and got me some emery boards as per Bob's suggestion to clean up my terminals.

Wives are wonderful. A whole pack to yourself , luxury ! I had to pinch mine , one at a time, just before she was about to throw them out , good enough to clean up electrical terminals / points though .
The whole Forum will be expecting to see clean , beautifully manicured finger nails in your pick up photos from now on, now that you've gone public. No more grease , oil , dirt under your finger nails , like the rest of us.
Crack on , there's always something to do owning a classic. Never a dull moment.

the gloopy mess that is the inside of the hub, all sealant and badly placed rubber o ring, and there are two gaskets here!

going great guns, using a 12mm chisel to raise the old oil seal at the base.

well the drivers side has gone well very quickly, but then I went to finish off by bleeding the brakes, the offside held up with no leaks and air coming down the clear bleed hose, but the nearside rear was leaking profusely.

here's the prime suspect taken earlier today before reassembly, thinking that annealing and sealant would stop any leaking, I think it may be I just need to renew the banjo and connection this side.

Is the handbrake cable attached? the adjusters will need backing off.

this is incredible service from ESM, I ordered these parts late yesterday afternoon at about 1640 hrs, John of ESM said they probably won't arrive till tuesday, and they arrived here before ten this morning, great I can get on with renewing the leaking banjo and connection pipe with the bleed nipple, I need to anneal the copper washers.

new banjo fitted, I heated the washers up with a gas burner and fitted them right away, all tightened, handbrake backed right off, cables slack, now ready to bleed.

but I'm still getting this flood of brake fluid, I'm going wrong somewhere. new bleed nipples tightened up. Ive got the one man bleed kit attached to the offside, and both sides leak fluid out..

of course it's leaking, I'm such a Numtey, using the wrong type of bleed nipple, they're BSF, thank goodness for that, thought I was going mad for a moment, re fitted the battered old unf nipple and there was not a drip coming out of the new banjo, onward and upward, smile you never know, you might be winning. Hope I haven't knackered the threads or I could be back to square one. Image

I recently fitted "speed bleeders" - bleed nipples with one-way valves built in - at all four bleed points on my Mog. The entire car can be bled in fifteen minutes. They're amazing. The BSF ones were a bit hard to find, though.

On heat-shrink tubing I used to use my dad's heat gun, but now that I live in an apartment three hours away from him, I use a long lighter. Carefully. :lol:

the heat shrink tubes and the spare hairdryer my wife has replaced due to it making a funny noise when you turn it off, but it's ok for workshop use and does have a high heat setting.

the tube easily cuts to size and slips over the connection.

heat shrink ready for some heat to shrink it, hope there's enough heat from the hairdryer, it's beyond hand hot.

heat shrink test on a spare connector on the kitchen cutting board after heat application by hairdryer, the tube has shrunk right down.

but doing it on a board and doing it in the engine bay are two different things, I'm afraid of heat damage to the plastic pump casing, the tubing hasn't gone all the way down, but it is covering the metal connection, I'll leave it at that.

thanks Irmscher, yes I may follow up on other connections using heat shrink later. In the meantime, it's another round of brake shoe adjustment and bleeding. The jack slipped out from under the chassis, lucky the exhaust bracket I've just re welded wasn't damaged, so I made this, a block of timber with a chassis sized groove. Seems to work really well, I don't want to damage the chassis with metal to metal contact. I may cut a recess where the jack goes into the wood, and I'll cut one for the axle stands too.
