Re: barrie's project
Remember the water in the original system would be hot an under perhaps more pressure than a domestic cold water system . That said it would be as near as you could get without a radiator test set up.
Re: barrie's project
Very true, also the heat would expand the steel radiator to a degree and show up any leaks which may not show up using cold water ,

"I could even clamp one end closed and clamp the other to the hose pipe".
No, don't clamp it closed as the pressure in the system is not very high in normal running (4 to 12 psi as per rad relief valve) and by doing that it will put up to 50psi from the tap in the heater coil. Just a digit exerting a small amount of pressure over the outlet will do just fine to show up a possible leak.

Re: barrie's project
Hot water in a domestic system significantly less pressure than mains cold, but the point is well made. You do not want to induce the sort of pressure that blows out core plugs.
Re: barrie's project
Just a quick update,it seems that the heater holds water, thankfully! But it's not a definite success until the car is up and running, today I cleaned up the battery clamp and a few other things, and painted them, I used one of those heat induction things to burn off the paint and remove the rust then gave it a good wire brushing

Re: barrie's project
Il be prepping the engine bay on Sunday , ready for a mate to come in and paint it properly , il have to make a makeshift booth and an extractor fan , he will be fully kitted out with safety in mind, so hopefully in two weeks the engine bay will be painted , and I can fit the drivers side suspension , is there any tips or a step by step instructions on fitting the front suspension ? It was years ago that I stripped it !
Re: barrie's project
Managed to prep the engine bay . I used 320 grit on a da to quickly buzz it down then 800 grit to finish it off .then finished off with red scotch bright around the edges. Then a good blow off and de grease. Then masked up . Ready for next weekend .

Re: barrie's project
Hi all , just had the engine bay painted , it was a bit of a palaver making the booth out of sheeting , here you can see the fan I used as a filter system

Re: barrie's project
I used a small fan for getting fresh air in , and it helped with drying the base coat

Re: barrie's project
We used an infrared heat lamp , the second coat of color went on a treat and the filter worked well ,as you can see it soon turned black , the filter is proper booth filters cable tied to the fan

Re: barrie's project
All lacquered , left to dry for an hour , then warmed up to help cure it , the lacquer was mixed at a ratio of 5/1 . So 5 parts lacquer, 1 parts hardener , also we added a little rocket that accelerates the hardening of the lacquer (just a little dribble ) I had to remove the sheeting as the barn it's in is in use all the time, which is the main reason we used the accelerator ( rocket )

Re: barrie's project
Managed to fit up most of the front rig hand suspension , not happy with the hight of the torsion bar going buy the set up measurements , I seems to low , but the torsion bar is set to the highest! Not sure what to do? The torsion bar doesn't seem to far from lower trunnion.
I have to remove parts of the hub to get the new bottom trunnion on then jack the torsion bar up to fix it in place,
Then il be able to fit the small lower arm , also iv fitted the steering column and some of the brake lines and the 4 way brake union , I'm not sure how the brake pipe goes from the front 4 way to the master cylinder in the chassis ?
I'm not sure where or which hole it goes through in the chassis?
A few pics

Re: barrie's project
If the ride height is beyond adjustment the torsion bar needs the arm moving 1 spline around and the fine adjusting with the plate in the crossmember.
