Re: barrie's project
I even painted the underside at the front and the flitches and even the inside at the back , but then realised I needed to weld in the rear seat belt mounts ! But it's not a big problem to do ?

Re: barrie's project
This concludes today's posts from me !! Sorry if it's a lot , I was so excited to be working on her , and do an update . I'm happy the front is close to being done , , next il be flatting the primer in the engine bay masking it up and spraying it, well not me but a friend , I will then get a few bits for the front suspension and hopefully fit that , then il spin her around and do it all over again on the other side !
Re: barrie's project
Today has been a chill out day , but I still managed to get my son off the Xbox to try and get him interested in the Morris , and I managed to get him to fit up the leaf springs , I think he enjoyed it , I explained to him how the dampers work in a way an 8 year old would understand ,

Re: barrie's project
Your lad's got a big smile on his face. I bet he's going to be a budding mechanic in a few years time.
He probably gets the enthusiasm from you ... not that you're excited / proud of your achievements so far .... are you ?
Not much I bet , fantastic work to a very high standard, you should be well pleased with yourself.
I inducted both my lads into car mechanics and restoration when they were young. The youngest was "very enthusiastic " at first ,
applying all the brute force a teenager could manage !!
He came back to me in the breakers yard , after being sent climbing over the cars for a side light. He proudly held half a rusty wing aloft with the light unit still attached. "The screws were stuck " he said. I promptly gave him a 30 second demo on how to release a stuck self tapper . He learnt to be a little more "sympathetic " to his own first car !

Re: barrie's project
Ha,yes he does love cars, but in the virtual world, that day he was on the Xbox on and off for hours , so I thought I would put a spanner in the works ! I set the iPad up with a diagram of the leaf springs and said it's just like a lego manual,he found all the part numbers on each bag , and matched each part number with the picture and built it up , with a little help from me. I'm sure he will help more after iv done all the grinding ,welding, banging and bad words!
I have been tested with this car , but I'm happy the way it's going ,it's for my hole family to enjoy and for my dear grampa who is no longer with us, I miss him so much , and wish I could have asked him more important questions, instead of ( turn the indicators on ), this was huge fun for me and my sister watching them flick out , we thought it was the best car in the world, because no other car around would have them , I just hope il finish it some day!

Re: barrie's project
There are two functions here 1) the fan, tested by connecting to power 2) the matrix which has flow and return connections under pressure of the engine coolant just like a mini radiator. Test by connecting to the coolant under pressure.

Re: barrie's project
Thanks for the reply , I was going to connect to a 12 v battery but I didn't know if it would damage it or not , thought I'd ask first! , I'v not got a clue about electrical things ,I'm unable to test the coolent side of it as there's nothing I'm the car to connect it to !, is there something else I can do to test the coolent side of things ?

Re: barrie's project
coolant is pumped around the matrix when the isolating tap is opened, at the same pressure found in the engine. I don't know another way of testing it other than connected to a car. I suppose you could contact a radiator reconditioner and ask then to test it for leaks in the same way as they do for recon radiators.
As far as I know there is no problem connecting to a 12 volt system and nothing which regulates current to it apart from the voltage regulator . Be aware that the fort setting on the switch is the fastest and turning it clockwise further will slow the fan. Many people believe these heaters do not work well as when turned on full i.e. fully clockwise it is very slow. They do not appreciate that the initial position is the fast one.

Re: barrie's project
Ok , il look for a place that does pressure testing , I didn't think of that . I'm hoping it's ok , it seems in good nick for its age but I don't want it leaking all over new carpets , if I get to that stage

Re: barrie's project
Can you not hook it up to a tap using garden hose and run water through it that way. Once the water is coming out the other end turn the tap down to a trickle and gently place a digit over the outlet to build up a bit of pressure (not too much though) and then check for leaks.

Re: barrie's project
That's looking great
Re: barrie's project
I managed to get the heater all painted (not all original colours though). I tried to test the motor without the speed switch connected, It didn't work , I went through half a day thinking it was knackered, I built it up fully at lunch time and tested again and it worked ! Thank god , as these seem expensive and didn't really want to spend more money,I paint the little vents as well .and removed the fuel sender unit from the tank, the sender was seized solid, sremoved the top cover and soaked the lot in wd40 for the day , I'm hope it to save it, after a few hours I eased the float and it came free , the contacts and coil in the sender unit seem fine , the only way I can test this is when iv built the car up , unless you guys know of a way ?

Re: barrie's project
That's a good idea , I could even clamp one end closed and clamp the other to the hose pipeamgrave wrote:Can you not hook it up to a tap using garden hose and run water through it that way.
