Hi there. New here. Just found ourselves with a Morris 1000 pickup. Our dad had many Morris's over the years. His first car was a 2 door with racing running gear.
Anyway. We found this tucked away in a barn locally to us here in brightwater Nelson nz. Being ex pats from the uk we love all things old and English, naturally.
So we got it back to our place. Slung it in te barn and started to collect bits to restore it.
We then piled up a van cab for next to nothing. As the pickup has had a naff sunroof fitted, and the floor panels are rotten. We decided to start with a fresh cab. This one is not perfect but it is in better nick.
Then I found it had a fibre glass cab back on it. Nothing against fibre glass but I hate getting the stuff in my hands when fibre glassing so I went on a hunt for a tin cab back.
I found one in rough condition. So I bought it. It was on the north island and it cost lots to get it here but it's done now. I should learn to not look once I have what I want because there is a couple of them on trademe now. [Don't swear or you will be banned - Admin] ah well. And so it began. I kicked my DONT SWEAR OR YOU WILL BE BANNED into gear on Friday night and got the can in the workshop. In front of my brothers 4 door restoration. And started to fettle and tinker.[frame]Image[/frame]

Prep and fabrication of the cab back, it was in a bit of a sorry state. It had about 9 layers of paint on top of the rust.[frame]Image[/frame]

Then started to cut out the rust and make up the plates to rebuild it. We also had not got the panel to go on the bottom of the cab back to finish the bottom so as I cut the bottom of the cab off I decided to extend it to reach the bottom of the cab. Also I bolted it to the cab so that it did not loose it's shape as i ended up cutting a lot of metal out.[frame]Image[/frame]

Cut the bottom of the cab away getting rid of the rust. And making the cab back finish properly.[frame]Image[/frame]

Cut the metal out of the roof of a mercedes. As I don't have a sheet of steel that long. And then started to fabricate.[frame]Image[/frame]

Slowly welded the bottom on so not to distort the panel. I am not a panel beater by trade but I like to do it myself so I can make sure there is metal and not filler under the paint.[frame]Image[/frame]

Modified the box section in the cab back so the seat can go as far back as possible. As I am 6 foot tall. And my brother is over 6foot 4 we need leg room. So I lowered the box section on the cab back so the seat goes as far back as possible.[frame]Image[/frame]

The pickup as we got it. All I have Done is put standard wheels on it. As it had wide wheels on it. I like the original look.[frame]Image[/frame]

A total of about 24 hours into the shed over the weekend. And it has come a long way. I will try to spend as much time on it over the next few weeks.[frame]Image[/frame]

Hi from the other Isle. I am in Hastings (Hawkes Bay) and am also fixing up a Ute (pick Up). I am not quite as tall (my daughter who is over 6ft calls me shorty) as you chaps but I have taken a different angle to the problem as I have created (or am creating) a long cab version by using the good bits out of a very sad Traveller. I was told by most that I was mad and there are times I believe them but most things are screwed together just waiting for me to get the welder going again. Fun Fun Fun.

Cheers Allan

PS I love your spelling mistake on the first posting (te barn) you have become a Kiwi already. I call my ute Te Ute (Te yutee in Kiwi) which in very rough translation is The Ute

Allan,

I'd love to see a picture of your "crew cab"(maybe start a new thread).

Maybe I should. At present it is just a bit of a rusty beasty. If I spent less time on the computer and more time working it may be further along the road.

that cab back has an interesting colour demarcation there DJM, yellow above blue, I wonder if it belonged to an airline at some point in it's history?
