I'm guessing it was in a garage that you don't visit every day, judging by the three week window. Was it 2 or 4 door; if I see any cars matching, I'll make a note of the number plate and check it out. I hope it turns up safe and sound.

It's a 2 door saloon, I'd put it away for the winter so not been to check on it for a few weeks, also had a load of scrap stolen from outside the garage and some steel shelving, which not until yesterday did I put the two together as just thought a scrap man had been, but it looks like something more sinister now.

Did it have any glass etching, showing the registration number?

I always thought that etching was a good idea, but when I brought my '55 Moggie I think the doors had been replaced as assemblies with a pair from a much newer car, as both drop glass had the other car's reg no etched in.
I looked on the DVLA site and the other Reg was still 'active' on the database but had been untaxed for many years (not on a SORN). So probably broken up for spares and DVLA not informed.

hope you get it back if not guess insurance is the way. to go
small consolation i know and the police don't seem to care much
maybe the scrap outside did not help matters and may have. Even encouraged them
Good luck either way

Wholesale bulkhead VIN stamping in order.

Nearly 2018 and STILL all someone has to do is pinch a Minor and swap ID plates.

Can we please set up something for 2018, get MMOC to introduce some scheme?!

The chassis VIN number is already stamped on the bulkhead so what is another number going to do?
Another number on the bulkhead is not going to stop the car being stolen!
If you want to stamp the chassis number VIN - do it in a location known only to you.
I suspect that steal first and worry about numbers later is the order of the day..
It pays to check and note all the serial numbers on body, engine, gearbox and rear axle (their locations are shown in the BMC wksp manual).
It may not stop the car being stolen but it will help in identifying the vehicle/major components if and when the vehicle is recovered.
My father always used to remove the distributer cap and rotor arm to immobilise the vehicle - but make sure that there is not a useable replacement unit to hand otherwise that defeats the object.
I do hope that the whereabouts of the car come to light soon. That would be a good start to the New Year.

Tech Tips had some good ideas on theft prevention - so bring it on back.
Phil

Engine bay factory finish is primer/first coat covering body number id plate, chassis number stamped AFTER. 1948-65 and the aditional problem with repainted engine bays.
1965 onwards, no way of checking unless vendor happy to let you bare metal between the floorpan oblong pressings.
As for LCVs, don't have this luxury.

A stamp (known only to owner) and a security sticker - making a prospective thief aware of the additional hastle involved - possibly a solution?

I'm bouncing idea's here, input from those with suggestions would help.
