REMOTE BRAKE RESERVOIR KIT
Hi All
I have been thinking of fitting one of these kits for some time now,and as I have to replace a rear cylinder, now is the time.
Its a nice kit,but poor instructions when it comes to routing of the pipe.
Has anyone got some advice please?
I am not keen on running inside the chassis, but the torsion bar on the outside, is very close to where I would like to fit
it.
Any suggestions please?
many thanks
Trevor

Re: REMOTE BRAKE RESERVOIR KIT
Which particular kit? I'm not sure why you'd want to run it past the torsion bar.
A remote reservoir isn't really necessary with standard brakes, only makes life a little easier checking the level and topping up.

Re: REMOTE BRAKE RESERVOIR KIT
Trevor,
Don't use the kit with the plastic pipe. You , like me and many others, will regret fitting it. They sweat brake fluid and are not fit for purpose. Not very good for your paintwork. A copper pipe is better. On the MG I used Goodridge braided brake hose instead. I mounted the reservoir on the battery box on the Moggy.
Routing:
That depends on what system you are using. The instructions for the "sweaty" plastic pipe version says 3 to 4 inches behind the M/C as the hose must turn 180° to come back to the spigot on the rear of the M/C. If you are using the "better" braided hose version, the banjo comes out at 90° directly behind the M/C. De-Burr the hole and use some touch up paint to protect the chassis before fitting the grommet.
The photo below shows what I used on the MG-available from JJC Race and Rally or from Rally Design.
The whole set-up is nearly identical to the Moggy -just the M/C is easier to get at on the MG.

The blanking plug at the rear of the M/C tapped and the banjo installed.[frame][/frame]

Re: REMOTE BRAKE RESERVOIR KIT
Can't see it being worth all the hassle for standard brakes.....I check/top up the master cylinder level every year before the MOT... It's not an arduous task.

Re: REMOTE BRAKE RESERVOIR KIT
Hi Guys
Thanks for all the advice, yes the kit did come with the plastic pipe.
The main reason for changing, was for ease of checking level, but also for bleeding.it saves getting in the way of person on the
pedal.
Declan many thanks,i have just found that rally design are not far from me,and will pay them a visit, for the correct pipe and
fittings
thanks again

Re: REMOTE BRAKE RESERVOIR KIT
Declan,
I have the rubber tube version and it has caused a very small amount of paint damage, but nothing very serious. However, this winter I will need to change the fluid, so a good opportunity to replace the rubber hose as well.
Is there room in the standard chassis leg for the banjo in your picture? Do JJC Race & Rally do a 'kit' or is it a matter of selecting the appropriate components?

Re: REMOTE BRAKE RESERVOIR KIT
Richard,
I'll post up a parts list in the morning. You may have to drill a hole. I will ask my mate who used this same set-up on his traveller.

Re: REMOTE BRAKE RESERVOIR KIT
Hi Declan
Many thanks for all the info, and photos, very helpful.
I am going to Rally Design on Monday for the parts required for the job.
I am sure not going to fit the plastic pipe, better to do the job once only.
Thanks again, and hope this helps other Members?
regards
Trevor

Re: REMOTE BRAKE RESERVOIR KIT
Richard,
I spoke to my mate last night who recently installed my version on his trav. Whichever system you use whether it is Welshrat's, mine or the plastic pipe version you will still have to drill an appropriate hole. If you have the plastic pipe already installed then Welshrat's version would save any further drilling.

I thought it was just mine that did that! Good to hear that it's a recognized problem.Declan_Burns wrote:Trevor,
