Fuel Pump

Post by Nigel2 »

Got to change or overhaul the SU pump, have change points in the past and diaphram but has anybody fitted one of these modern replacements like the HUCO pump and if so are there any problems. They seem to come in at around £44.00 and if they are any good seems the best way to go.

As long as you get a proper SU pump, the others in the market are not as good.

The old SU points type can be fixed at the side of the road, the electronic one can only be changed as a whole thing, which is a disadvantage. They do work though

Nigel if you are on about the German made electronic ones (most have a blue band around them) forget it a couple of our brnach members had nothing but problems a few years ago and a few others on here have had similar experiences, the imitation ticking they give of is often far louder than the originals and the seem to last about as long as a certain companys exhaust systems 12 months and a day. If you want to go electronic buy the proper SU version from Bulens, I know some people say the SU pump is not that reliable but many of them have lasted for 20 - 40 years with a bit of maintenance which cant be too bad.

Thanks for the comments - will be sticking with SU's, at least I know them! Seemed a good idea at the time to go modern but if I wanted to do that why would I be running a Minor
