brake master cylinder

removed the master cylinder, to replace the seals. the bore looks fine and feels smooth, but the reservoir part is full of gunge, and as it is a solid part I cant get inside to clean it. any ideas?

The plug on the rear end will unscrew which gives good access for a toothbrush, BUT if there's that much muck in there then I'd replace ALL the cylinders, pipes, and hoses since the crud could have worked around everywhere, and it needs only a small amount to cause a big problem.

Try a (lint free) rag on the end of a screwdriver / wire from a coathanger.
If you've got long fingers you might not even need the bent wire... but I serrated a finger doing that ones (the far end of the threads in the neck had a sharp burr

) so that's NOT reccomended.

cant open the end bit, soaking the whole thing in petrol and will try again tomorrow. esm sent me the wrong rebuild kit

Try proper penetrating fluid like plus gas.
